“Get Fit and Help Promote ALS Research!"
An Invitation from Gen-Y Columnist, Jacquelyn Matoian.
I'm a recent college graduate with a Masters from American University. I'm also the Health Promotion Coordinator for L&T Health and Fitness at the Government Accountability Office.
L&T is celebrating its 25th Year Anniversary in June. To commemorate the anniversary, we are launching a “25,000 On The Move Challenge,” and we’d like to invite you to be a part of this event as part of your own fitness program.
As a member of the Challenge Team, you will join with 24,999 other team members to promote your own health and well being as well as helping to promote awareness of healthy exercise practices.
All you have to do is commit to physical activity for 25 days during the month of June.
The 25,000 On The Move Challenge allows individuals to track their physical activity either online or manually on activity tracking sheets. It's a really great opportunity for everyone I know and love to get moving! Plus there are great incentives. See more information below.
When: June 1 – 25, 2009.
Who: Anyone who wants to be healthy.
How: It’s easy, fun and rewarding.
Cost: FREE.
Purpose: To improve your own health and fitness and raise money for research into treatments and a cure for ALS, (also called “Lou Gehrig’s Disease”). ALS is a devastating disease that destroys nerve cells that control muscles. Those afflicted with ALS lose the ability to speak and ultimately suffer complete paralysis.
L&T will donate $1 to Augie’s Quest for each participant who participates in the 25,000 On The Move Challenge. Augie's Quest was started in 2005 by Augie and Lynne Nieto after Augie was diagnosed with ALS and has raised $18 million in three years.
Augie Nieto has been a prominent leader in the fitness industry for nearly three decades as co-founder and former president of Life Fitness and chairman of Octane Fitness. Our industry is indebted to Augie for all that he has done and continues to do.
We urge you to join us in our quest to get 25,000 people moving for 25 days straight as part of L&T’s 25-year anniversary celebration. Our efforts will help move the cure for ALS forward.
Step 2: Use the member ID Matoja to log in.
Step 3: Beginning June 1, start tracking your physical activity.
Incentives: To meet our 25,000 On The Move goal, L&T will provide a variety of incentives. Each day of the challenge there will be a random drawing for a $25 gift card for those who log their exercise online.
At the end of the 25 days, 25 people who complete the 25,000 On The Move challenge will be eligible to receive cash awards, fitness equipment, and other health and fitness related products*.
All participants who successfully exercise for 25 days will receive a certificate of completion stating that they have met the 25,000 On The Move physical activity requirements
*Only participants registered online will be eligible for cash awards and prizes. All activity must be logged by June 30, 2009.
Please register and help us get 25,000 people moving this June! Your participation means so much to me and L&T. Feel free to pass this on to your friends and family. Let's get moving!
