The YWCA Greater Los Angeles (YWCA/GLA) presented its Sixth Annual Benefactrix Ball Friday, October 26 at the Beverly Hills Hotel. The Ball is the organization’s largest fundraiser with proceeds benefiting programs such as, transitional housing, vocation training, youth development, childcare, supportive services and more.
Prominent feminist attorney Gloria Allred was honored with The Silver Achievement Award, presented to individuals who distinguish themselves in the community through professional, volunteer and/or philanthropic work, resulting in significant change.
“Gloria’s exceptional leadership and life work consists of healing and supporting the lives of others, as she has become an ambassador for women and truth,” said Faye Washington, CEO of the YWCA Greater Los Angeles. “She is a fearless trailblazer who advocates for peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all people.”
During the Ball, Washington also took the opportunity to announce the organization’s new strategic direction. YWCA’s commitment to the community has produced an accelerated vision that imagines that everyone can have a safe place to live, learn and grow.
“We will accomplish this vision through the delivery of a five-year strategic plan that focuses on succession, planning for leadership, strengthening our collective power to train our youth, providing transitional housing and supportive services, and embarking on a mission that delivers social enterprise as a concept to fund our vision. We’ve been there and will always be there,” said Washington.
The Benefactrix Ball was also a celebration of the organization’s 113th anniversary in delivering services that create positive changes for families through the greater Los Angeles area. Comedian/actress Kim Coles kept everyone on their toes as the evening’s mistress of ceremonies while guests took part in a silent auction.
