Check the pet aisles in any store, and soon you will see the intent look on the faces of those shopping for Christmas presents for their furry family. I recall reading an article years ago that claimed that 75% of Americans not only buy gifts for their pets, but also wrap the items and watch with delight as they are opened Christmas morning.
The commitment between owner and animal is a life-long obligation not to be taken lightly, and one that is filled with an unconditional love like none other. When a bond forms between human and pet, both benefit by caring for each other.
The presence of a loyal, loving canine can reduce the risk of heart attack, lower stress levels, and produce smiles and laughter for years. Pet Therapy programs have sprung up across the United States and visits from select, trained gentle creatures provides care and comfort to those confined in nursing homes.
Many pet owners today are buying pet insurance to guarantee that their beloved companion will be able to receive any medical care necessary throughout their existence. Enjoying quality of life with a senior dog is the goal of every person who obtains a puppy.
Tenderness and love will allow that cute, wild little bundle of fluff to mature into a beautiful, sedate senior who will ask nothing more than clean water and food, shelter, and an affectionate gentle hand. In exchange, the owner will receive years of love, kisses, tail wags and a devotion that is unparalleled.
From the minute you see your dog for the first time, to the last blink of their eyes, you will feel nothing but love and adoration coming through. Dogs worship their owners as much, if not more, than their owners admire them.
Watch the beauty unfold between a child and a faithful friend. See the respect that connects a senior citizen to an elderly canine. Throughout the life of this relationship, there is an unspoken loyalty, an implicit code that exists between an owner and a dog. “If you treat me with kindness, love and respect, I shall do the same.”
We as Americans spend millions of dollars per year on our companion animals to ensure health and provide pleasure through toys or activities. In return these furry, loveable creatures live for our presence. Dogs not only capture our attention, but our heart and soul as well. It is a lucky individual who has been the recipient of the type of devotion that can only come from Man’s best friend. Try to become half the person your dog thinks you are.
